Has your office turned into a stack of unorganized papers that you spend a lot of time sorting through to find what you need? Here are a few tips that’ll help you create a better office space for your mental well-being.
Disinfect everything in your office

Once your desk is clean, you’ll want to wipe it clean with a non-abrasive cleaner (e.g., an antibacterial wipe). Make sure you do this at least weekly.
Invest in folders
One piece of office furniture you should never overlook is a filing cabinet. Once you have one, you’ll want to buy as many folders as you need to organize all the loose papers that are cluttering up your desk. As you’re sorting through your files, remember that if it isn’t important enough to put in a folder, you should get rid of it.
Stop buying so many office supplies
Take a look around and try to figure out how much of the stuff on your desk you use daily. You shouldn’t have more than three or four items on your desk. Anything that isn’t used daily should be stored in or on another piece of office furniture. One way of figuring this out is to move all your office supplies to one side of your desk and, as you use them, move them to the other side of your desk. At the end of the day, move anything that’s left in the original pile to storage elsewhere.
“Out of sight, out of mind”
Although cords and cables are necessary, they can also make it so you can’t function at your desk. This is especially true of standing desks since they have cables with them. Unfortunately, all these cables are a distraction to your work, so you should try to hide them out of sight.
Tailor your workspace to fit your needs
The paper notebooks and printouts that are on your desk shouldn’t be there if you’re not using them. There’s an office furniture that you can use to store these in. You can also find other office supplies to use that’ll make you more productive. For instance, if you’re using the Pomodoro system to manage your time, you may want to consider investing in a beautiful timer to help you stay inspired. On the other hand, if you’re more of a visual type, you might want to make some space for a desktop calendar on top of your office furniture.
Find a place to keep your gadgets
All of us use multiple screens (e.g., smartphones, smartwatches) today. This makes being productive and staying on task difficult unless you have some place for all of them. This should be a dedicated drawer or shelf – somewhere that’ll allow you to focus without being by a constant stream of notifications.
Invest in more desk storage room
There are tools available (e.g., monitor riser) to help you make the most of the space your desk offers. Your goal is to choose some tools that’ll allow you to keep your items within arm’s reach where they’re easily accessible without cluttering up your workspace.
